🔥 Sarcófago – The Pioneers of Extreme Metal Blasphemy Sarcófago was one of Brazil's most notorious and influential extreme metal bands, formed in 1985 in Belo Horizonte. Spearheaded by Wagner "Antichrist" Lamounier, the band unleashed a brutal mix of black, death, and thrash metal, pushing sonic and visual boundaries with raw aggression, anti-religious lyrics, and chaotic aesthetics. Their 1987 debut, "I.N.R.I.", became a landmark in black metal history, influencing countless bands in the first and second waves of the genre, including Mayhem and Darkthrone. Known for their fast blast beats, lo-fi production, corpse paint, and unrelenting attitude, Sarcófago embodied the underground spirit of true metal rebellion. Though they disbanded in 2000, Sarcófago's legacy still bleeds through the veins of modern extreme metal. They didn’t just play music — they ignited a movement.
Band Members
Wagner Lamounier is a legendary figure in extreme metal, best known as the founder and frontman of Sarcófago, one of Brazil’s most influential metal bands. With his raw vocals, anti-religious lyrics, and aggressive style, he helped shape the early sound of black and death metal. A former member of Sepultura, Wagner later left music to become a professor of economics, but his impact on the global metal scene remains iconic.
Clovis Roman is a Brazilian musician and the bassist for Sarcófago. Known for his thunderous bass lines and intense stage presence, Clovis has been a key member of the band since its inception. His contributions to the songwriting and overall sound of Sarcófago have solidified his status as a legend in the extreme metal community.
D.D. Crazy was the original drummer of Sarcófago, known for his wild, chaotic playing style that helped define the band’s raw and aggressive sound. His use of early blast beats and unhinged energy on the iconic album "I.N.R.I." (1987) made him a cult figure in the underground metal scene. Though his time in the band was short, his impact on extreme metal drumming is legendary.
Lúcio Olliver was the guitarist for Sarcófago during the early era, contributing to the band’s iconic raw and chaotic sound on their debut album "I.N.R.I." His fast, aggressive riffing and unpolished playing style helped shape the foundation of black and extreme metal. Though his time with the band was brief, his influence remains part of Sarcófago's enduring legacy in the global underground metal scene.
